Fingerpicking lessons level 1

Patterns with thumb and index

In all previous fingerpicking guitar exercises you have played using only the thumb of your right hand, it is time to use your index finger. The two fingers will play together on different strings.

To play the next exercises you will need to pay particular attention to the your right hand. Observe your wrist that should be well up and away from the strings, do not commit the mistake of keeping it too close to the guitar.
Also observe that the thumb, having pinched, not direct to the inside of the hand against the other fingers. Having pinched it must remain always in a position external in relation to the other fingers.

In exercises 22 the index finger of right hand, indicated by "i", will play the third string open with the thumb. In sum, these two notes play on the first beat at the same time each measure.
